So what is a “Rally”? |
|
A road rally is a driving tour, on well paved public roads . It is a fun casual event, in which teams of people in cars follow a set of driving directions to get from the starting point of the Rally to the Rally Finale. Teams try to find answers to questions along the way. |

Cars follow the printed instructions as closely as possible, observing safe, indicated speeds, as they look for the answers to the sometimes tricky questions. The emphasis is on SAFETY, accuracy, observation... and fun! |

The Road Rally is NOT a race! |

Where will we go? The exact route will not be reveled any time before the race. However it is safe to say that as long as you navigate correctly you will stay within the limits of Bedford on roads you may not have known existed and past places or things you know little about. |

How many people can I have on my team? You may have as many people as you can safely fit in your vehicle. However remember that you will only receive one copy of Rally Packet that would need to be shared by all. This may be a case where “the more the merrier” is not true. We would recommend teams of two or three. If you are attending alone and would like to participate, we will be more than happy to try and find a member of our group to navigate. Please let us know as far in advance as possible so we can get the word out. |

What kind of car do I need? Any road worthy, registered and insured vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, etc.) will do. Our hope is that most people will use this opportunity to take their antique and classics out for a tour. Not only is it good for the vehicle but as we all know everyone else enjoys seeing them as well. |

What do I need to bring with me? You will need a vehicle with a full tank of fuel, a navigator (with reading glasses if needed) and a pen or pencil. |

How will the rally take place? We ask that each team arrive no less than 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the race to register. Each team will be given a copy of the rally rules and should review them prior to the start. After a brief welcome and announcements |

The cars will be lined up in a single line and each given a number. As each car reaches the start line they will be given their rally packages with the navigation directions and any other information needed. Cars will then leave the start line individually in timed intervals. |

What types of questions will we be asked to answer? Questions can range from identifying the location of an item shown in a picture to riddle type questions answered by something observed on the way. All answers will be visible from the road, you will not need to leave the vehicle to locate the answer. |

Will there be prizes? Yes, Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. Winners will be determined based on the number of correct answers and the time required to complete the course. The “base time” will be determined by the rally master. They will drive the course a number of times prior to the day of the rally (obeying all posted speed limit and other signs). The average of these recorded times will determine the “base time”. Penalties for those how finish early will be greater than those who are late. |
